Stephen Monger is an artist working predominately with photography, but other mediums too. He has received a number of awards and commissions, including a commission to explore 3D printing from The Pheonix Gallery, Exeter (2012), being short-listed for the Tate St. Ives residency (2004) and being selected for EAST International, Norwich by the American artist Lawrence Weiner (2002).
His edition comes from an ongoing body of work about the redevelopment of Weston-super-Mare. The project documents sites and events in the popular Somerset seaside town, including: demolitions, hotel fires and new builds. In the background of the print is the newly built Grand Pier and in the front is the island ferry ‘Westward Ho!’ heading out to Flatholm. The original photograph was taken on large format film and reproduced here uniquely in risograph ink.
